In 1957, Erwin Kiel from Oberhausen built the first caravan. One year later he started the design of caravans in an old workshop in Duisburg Meiderich. With the model “Weltbummler” – the line still exists – the company “Kiel Reiseanhänger” (Kiel travel trailer) was founded. In 1959 Wolfgang Thrun joins the company as sales manager. Two years later his brother Horst Thrun becomes regional sales manager for Northern Germany and the first sales department opens in Soltau. In 1962 Wolfgang Thrun takes over the company from Erwin Kiel and changes the name to “Kiel-Reiseanhänger-Nachfolger” (Successors to Kiel travel trailer ).
In the following three years he plans to move the headquarters, the production plants and the accessory centre to Mülheim. In 1967 the companies “Kiel- Reiseanhänger-Nachfolger” and “Eicker-Wohnwagen” merge. The new company name is T.E.caravans, Thrun & Eicker Caravans. The brand name T.E. C. therefore derives from the initials of the two company founders. The headquarters and the complete production move then to Oedt on the Rhine
The T.E.C. Owners Club of Great Britain was formed in 2002 by a group of enthusiasts and is open to anyone who owns a T.E.C. caravan.
The club coordinates rallies and social events throughout the year. Our rallies are relaxed, as one would expect in a friendly, family orientated club, catering for all ages and sizes of family.
There is no specific format to rallies so you don't have to join in, but it is a lovely way to make friends with people from all walks of life.
Some are beginners, others have years of experience with stories to tell.
However, they will all have one thing in common - the love of caravanning in a T.E.C. caravan.
